844/X New Version?

The rumor mills are running wild with speculation of new 844/X developments. As I've now heard this from a couple of different sources I thought it was time to spread the word.

The current state of play looks as though several ex 844/X engineers are looking to join forces to continue development of the 844/X software. Rumor has it that the software engineers are currently in discussions with Optibase for access to the 844/X code.

So what's in it for Optibase?

The idea would be that Media 100 would profit as the engineers would continue development of 844/X and thus allow Media 100 to continue to sell and promote 844/X, without the cost of directly paying for 844/X development.

What about the software engineers?

They would benefit by selling upgrades to the existing user base and to any additional 844/X purchasers.

This all sounds like a plan, lets all hope it's more than just speculation. I guess only time will tell.

Media 100HD Free Trial

The following news item has been popping up everywhere. Thought I better add to the excitement and post the news on 844/X user.

Get your free software-only Media 100 sw at NAB.

Now available for download.

Get a free timed out beta version of the upcoming Media 100 sw product to be announced later this year. The most intuitive and easy to learn interface of any professional nonlinear editor is now available as a companion to your other Media 100i or Media 100 HD systems.

With Media 100 sw you can use any media captured by these systems to edit, composite, mix and export to DVD or web for free for a limited time!

Although it currently does not capture or output to tape without the HDX video I/O board, all the other functionality of the Media 100 HD is there and ready to use. As we continue to develop the Media 100 sw, it will support Firewire capture and output from a range of DV and HDV decks. But you can get started using the free timed out version as soon as you pick up the exclusive CD-ROM at the Media 100 Optibase booth SL343.

Media 100 sw comprises:
  • A full-functioning editing application, with the familiar Media 100 interface
  • Edit SD and HD material
  • Full support for all Media 100 codecs
  • Real-time effects, depending on processor and drive speeds
  • Full media and graphics import and export capabilities
  • Trial version of Boris Graffiti
  • Moving programs backward and forward to Media 100 HD

Media 100 sw will also be able to open any program created on Media 100i, export material as a QuickTime movie or output via a Media 100i system to tape. All existing import and export workflows, including sending to third party compressors for MPEG2 for DVD or MPEG4 for web, will continue to work as they do with the current shipping Media 100 products.

So come by the Media 100/Optibase booth at NAB (April 18-22) for your exclusive CD-ROM to get you started using Media 100 sw immediately. Take a look at Media 100 HD, 844/X and Final Effects while you're there.
